About SpriteGen
SpriteGen is a true pixel-art studio built by Dorian Smith LLC: hand-draw on a real grid or generate sprites with AI, with output that is exact pixel art by construction.
What SpriteGen is
SpriteGen (spritegen.io) is a web-based true pixel-art studio. It is a hybrid editor: you can hand-edit pixels directly on a real grid, and you can have AI generate and edit sprites for you. Either way, the output is true pixel art. Ask for a 16×16 sprite and it is exactly 16×16, with a locked palette and no anti-aliasing.
Why it is different
Most AI pixel-art tools are diffusion models that paint a soft, full-color image and then snap it to a grid. They cannot make surgical, conversational edits. SpriteGen keeps a real grid of palette indices as the single source of truth, so the image is a document of operations, not a flat picture. That is what makes exact dimensions, hand editing, and AI editing one and the same mechanism, and it is why a request like "make the sword longer" changes only the intended cells.
Who builds it
SpriteGen is built by Dorian Smith LLC, an independent software studio. It is made for indie game developers and pixel artists who want real, editable sprites rather than AI slop.
